Last month I finally finished Mountmellic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEThPpmgOei-g0PwDOqGwlEs0_hWoMIuh5R_09i5ouO128vpi6RtpeAnKCAnH_O2lQYvWdA7uEByTZqgOV7mdYQ3E2LAdu_JWmfyMD8XAirBCmcTk5Aoq8vCVZy9fV972d0kk7gyyT0YEG/s1600/20160911_155920.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEThPpmgOei-g0PwDOqGwlEs0_hWoMIuh5R_09i5ouO128vpi6RtpeAnKCAnH_O2lQYvWdA7uEByTZqgOV7mdYQ3E2LAdu_JWmfyMD8XAirBCmcTk5Aoq8vCVZy9fV972d0kk7gyyT0YEG/s640/20160911_155920.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Mountmellic is designed by Di Ford Hall and was the Quiltmania Mystery Quilt for 2014. I received all the fabrics from Threadbear Quilting in Castlemaine in their Block of the Month program.<br />
The whole quilt is stitched by hand. Piecing was with Aurifil thread and I used YLI slik for the applique.<br />
<br />
In June I finished My Small World top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RaIatTUkeyU/WBM6ry9EpuI/AAAAAAAApwU/zVhelq9ohwU6-2NqIO-ayeNWq4UX-PXBwCKgB/s1600/20160620_131336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RaIatTUkeyU/WBM6ry9EpuI/AAAAAAAApwU/zVhelq9ohwU6-2NqIO-ayeNWq4UX-PXBwCKgB/s640/20160620_131336.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My Small World was designed by Jen Kingwell and the pattern was published in the Quiltmania Spring 2015 magazine. This quilts is also made completely by hand and took almost exactly 12 months to finish.<br />
At the moment I am hand quilting it...<br />
<br />

<br />
I am using Aurifil 12 for the sky and Perle 12 for the rest of the quilt.<br />
<br />

<br />
I am working on finishing a couple of other projects too. More about them soon. :)Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-87215842653012810982016-10-11T14:03:00.000+11:002016-10-11T14:03:42.180+11:00More from Making the Australian Quilt exhibition.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the original Auntie Green's quilt. It is one of the first quilts hanging in the exhibition and it took my breath away as I walked around the first corner. It was made by Mary Ann Wellen in England in 1860.<br />

This amazing work was stitched by Corporal Clifford Alexander Gatenby while he was a prisoner in a POW camp in Germany. The wool and cotton stitched onto this army blanket came from items of clothing discarded in the camp. Needles were hand made from spectacle frames and ground down toothbrushes!<br />

Every year Linda has tables and chairs set outside for everyone to enjoy refreshments. On each table is an old quilt (covered with plastic to protect it from spills) These quilts don't seem to be photographed and shared as often as those inside the barn, so I thoughT this year I would share photos of some blocks from several of these quilts.<br />

<br />
<br />
This was my favourite quilt in the exhibition. It is an unfinished quilt top made by Elizabeth Hardy in England before she came to Australia in the 1830s. <br />
<br />
I love this quilt, not only because of the fabrics, but also the workmanship.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Here is a close up of the centre medallion and some of the borders. That narrow pink border is not a print, they are a narrow strips of fabric, perfectly pieced!<br />
<br />
The broderie perse is chintz, still with the glaze. Below are a couple more photos of the borders in this quilt. Some of the fabrics are hand painted!<br />

<br />
The maker of this quilt is unknown. The fabrics span 1815 to the 1840s.<br />
<br />
I love the quirky blue and gold border on this coverlet...<br />
<br />

<br />
This coverlet was made by Elizabeth Smith. It was probably started in the 1830s, when Elizabeth still lived in England and completed in the 1850s after Elizabeth arrived in Melbourne.<br />
<br />
I took a couple of photos of part of the Rajah Quilt.<br />
<br />

<br />
That delicate appliqued border is amazing!!<br />
<br />
The Rajah Quilt was sewn by convict women who sailed Australia aboard the Rajah in 1841. These women had been taught patchwork while in Prison in London. This is the only known example of a convict quilt made on a voyage to the colony.<br />
<br />
Just a few more photos of parts of quilts.Unfortunately I didn't get details of these.<br />
<br />

A hexagon quilt, shown under glass. The papers are still in all the hexies. Some are printed, some have hand writing on them. The hexies have been joined with tiny whip stitch.<br />

<br />
I really love the fabrics in these old quilts!!!<br />
<br />
I wish I had taken a photo of the original Auntie Green! She was breathtaking!!<br />
<br />
There are 88 works in the exhibition, ranging from large pieced and appliqued quilts, to simple waggas, patchworked clothing and hand embroidered pieces.<br />
<br />
The Australian Quilt Exhibition is at NGV (Ian Potter Centre) until November 16. Well worth a visit...or two!Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-81993991257730120642016-04-25T11:32:00.001+10:002016-04-25T16:42:45.265+10:00A trip to JapanAt long last I am back here to post a little about to our trip to Japan.<br />
<br />
We spent just 6 days in Tokyo, but managed to see quite a bit.<br />
<br />
One evening, when we returned to our hotel room, we were surprised to see a faint view of Mt Fuji from our window.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aeQj2MWjJrI/Vx1fvUUWhqI/AAAAAAAAi0Q/NP2mF5AJ1PUaylNh0Ae3uIvb1aAs4xRYQCLcB/s1600/20151018_170133%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aeQj2MWjJrI/Vx1fvUUWhqI/AAAAAAAAi0Q/NP2mF5AJ1PUaylNh0Ae3uIvb1aAs4xRYQCLcB/s400/20151018_170133%255B1%255D.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
One of the things I love about Japan is the contrast between the old and the new. The photo below shows a stone structure in Ueno Park with the lights of the modern city in the background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOiZgFoSd9GFrOKZ55YGBWokRv678AYSANdx0MsjFVanV0SeG10hjajrRUcKMIqu1zzvDgrM8kmyVjDtXo1KHZxaqwBr-kaSl189XhGenNfSgZDv9CIPca0vwwhQQrvpY44zonweRVcEm0/s1600/20151019_172115%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOiZgFoSd9GFrOKZ55YGBWokRv678AYSANdx0MsjFVanV0SeG10hjajrRUcKMIqu1zzvDgrM8kmyVjDtXo1KHZxaqwBr-kaSl189XhGenNfSgZDv9CIPca0vwwhQQrvpY44zonweRVcEm0/s320/20151019_172115%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then there are serene gardens surrounded by thousands of buildings<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BJkQyHwt_8U/Vx1hgxELX1I/AAAAAAAAi0c/q9Vha6QhnMI_4XXKu93oZo3wVaqsckSlQCLcB/s1600/SAM_5727.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BJkQyHwt_8U/Vx1hgxELX1I/AAAAAAAAi0c/q9Vha6QhnMI_4XXKu93oZo3wVaqsckSlQCLcB/s320/SAM_5727.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And the iconic busy crossing in Shibuya.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DndC2ldUFuI/Vx1jvbFV4II/AAAAAAAAi0s/iQ4IhK7DraUR6sPYFXw7l37JTYN3chfHgCLcB/s1600/20151017_183842%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DndC2ldUFuI/Vx1jvbFV4II/AAAAAAAAi0s/iQ4IhK7DraUR6sPYFXw7l37JTYN3chfHgCLcB/s320/20151017_183842%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Of course I went fabric shopping! :)<br />
<br />
First stop was Nippori.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4dSrZTgs9a8/Vx1l7qUIjxI/AAAAAAAAi04/m4Ypk8z1f4oNw1FIr8CPiFd2zH-6sx6oQCLcB/s1600/20151016_111541%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4dSrZTgs9a8/Vx1l7qUIjxI/AAAAAAAAi04/m4Ypk8z1f4oNw1FIr8CPiFd2zH-6sx6oQCLcB/s320/20151016_111541%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
A whole street of fabric shops where the multi storey Tomato is possibly the most famous!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jPr_T4OPSKM/Vx1rV5fIltI/AAAAAAAAi1c/6peZzxZoUng2ba0h_0JMkLyTML9u5QD9ACLcB/s1600/SAM_5766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jPr_T4OPSKM/Vx1rV5fIltI/AAAAAAAAi1c/6peZzxZoUng2ba0h_0JMkLyTML9u5QD9ACLcB/s320/SAM_5766.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Me in fabric heaven!<br />
<br />
We also visited Yuzawaya. There are several Yuzawaya stores in Tokyo, but we went to the Takashimaya store in Shinjuku where Yuzawaya takes up one whole floor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7QM9N8Y_FZI/Vx1nM2zxjHI/AAAAAAAAi1A/mK7Tw8egL7wOJ0l13CwADHuiVJCg1YogACLcB/s1600/20151020_112813%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7QM9N8Y_FZI/Vx1nM2zxjHI/AAAAAAAAi1A/mK7Tw8egL7wOJ0l13CwADHuiVJCg1YogACLcB/s320/20151020_112813%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A stand of Liberty fabric on the left and much more to see on the right.<br />
<br />
We also went to Tokyu Hands which has craft supplies of all kinds.<br />
<br />
Another great find was Okadaya in Shinjuku. It is spread over 2 buildings and several floors. We don't speak any Japanese and the young lady who looked after us didn't speak any English but with lots of hand signs we managed to understand each other!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bAkyAirpJZ8/Vx1pWAMKWjI/AAAAAAAAi1M/IcjZrOex8bkFYB0l2fr22XZu1k5pmR5bACLcB/s1600/20151018_193107%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bAkyAirpJZ8/Vx1pWAMKWjI/AAAAAAAAi1M/IcjZrOex8bkFYB0l2fr22XZu1k5pmR5bACLcB/s320/20151018_193107%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Beautiful kimono fabric in Okadaya.<br />
<br />
While wandering around the huge department stores you never know what you will see...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O-Op5Hff6bI/Vx1qeTd7YoI/AAAAAAAAi1U/LcXgoBxEPckJWg1SeaSidv1BMNziXTUkACLcB/s1600/20151017_182523%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O-Op5Hff6bI/Vx1qeTd7YoI/AAAAAAAAi1U/LcXgoBxEPckJWg1SeaSidv1BMNziXTUkACLcB/s320/20151017_182523%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A patchwork skirt found in Seibu, Shibuya, In this department store there was a small area with La Drougerie, (knitting yarn, embroidery supplies, ribbon, gifts and a small amount of fabric), 100 Idees (fabric) and a craft bookstore.<br />
<br />
I even managed a little sewing on the plane.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyLWTQwmbLN3O1fsS0XyzCqEX-5-R0UFfPugzg0ha2CgBtw6ndy_3Ym12nlF6df8LvD0BvfJmZVWwWChS8hgrcxn0uqe3sjRAMUltnBsJI6NbUY88VoTW0ilHJEwZGXAWvrNErGwkLekHL/s1600/SAM_5893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyLWTQwmbLN3O1fsS0XyzCqEX-5-R0UFfPugzg0ha2CgBtw6ndy_3Ym12nlF6df8LvD0BvfJmZVWwWChS8hgrcxn0uqe3sjRAMUltnBsJI6NbUY88VoTW0ilHJEwZGXAWvrNErGwkLekHL/s320/SAM_5893.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We would love to go back to Japan one day and visit Kyoto and Osaka.<br />
<br />
And what did I buy? Below is some of my shopping. There were also a stack of fat quarters, many of which I have gifted or used.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dF6c5lHkMbc/Vx26Qvl1EyI/AAAAAAAAi3U/bEUX-6LleOgFDStoEelDTV0PI9IZZrmFwCLcB/s1600/20160425_162241%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dF6c5lHkMbc/Vx26Qvl1EyI/AAAAAAAAi3U/bEUX-6LleOgFDStoEelDTV0PI9IZZrmFwCLcB/s320/20160425_162241%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Oops!!! How did it appear upside down??!!<br />
The Yuwa toile I found at Tomato and I bought some in blue too. The bird fabric is also from a shop in Nippori. Okadaya had tables of "bargain" fabric out the front of the store, and I found the red fabric there. The books I found at a book store called Keibundo Books. It is a huge store with very helpful staff, and a great section of craft books. Yuzawaya, Tomato and Odakaya had tables of fat quarters of all sorts of fabrics.<br />
I would go back to Japan in a heartbeat!!<br />

Today I spent a few hours admiring quilts and catching up with friends.<br />
<br />
What a stunning welcome!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1E_1YRezbdM/VlmFPCkuu1I/AAAAAAAAcmU/_CxS9XK6Ju0/s1600/SAM_5948.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1E_1YRezbdM/VlmFPCkuu1I/AAAAAAAAcmU/_CxS9XK6Ju0/s400/SAM_5948.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This beautiful quilt hung above the entrance to the barn.<br />
<br />
The theme this year was scrappy quilts. Most of the quilts had no names associated with them, so I am sorry I cannot acknowlege the creators of these magnificent quilts.<br />
<br />
This year Linda invited 2 guests from USA. Mary Koval came with a beautiful collection of old fabric and quilts available for purchase.<br />
<br />
Jo Morton displayed several of her quilts.<br />
<br />

<br />
Leonie Bateman had a small stall where fabrics designed by Mary and Jo, among others, were available for purchase.<br />
<br />
Now for a few of the quilts.....<br />

My Small World is designed by Jen Kingwell (of Amitie here in Melbourne) and was published in The Spring special of Quiltmania, 2015.<br />
<br />
I have completed 3 sections of the 6. Here is my progress so far<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmzIFm139QDSVDgHXhrYPDnX4DqZ49pCW67l0l0NswD_Eet94i_b7MeUxTBoXbKVvuEBA8CyMFWqqp2YGEhLRNBHNkQatz0pxBWnOwza0gVpJdDL2tb8ccMTiNlg626n4CzrN30cHIR9d/s1600/SAM_5907.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmzIFm139QDSVDgHXhrYPDnX4DqZ49pCW67l0l0NswD_Eet94i_b7MeUxTBoXbKVvuEBA8CyMFWqqp2YGEhLRNBHNkQatz0pxBWnOwza0gVpJdDL2tb8ccMTiNlg626n4CzrN30cHIR9d/s400/SAM_5907.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got a starter pack of fabric from Amitie (several fabrics the same as in Jen's original quilt) and I added lots of fabrics along the way<br />
<br />
Since is it called "my small world" I have used some fabrics that have significance for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rud5oVyseF0/VkgHa582vAI/AAAAAAAAYJU/nhlp5QWUnPc/s1600/SAM_5909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="209" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rud5oVyseF0/VkgHa582vAI/AAAAAAAAYJU/nhlp5QWUnPc/s320/SAM_5909.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used "Rose" because it is in my blog name, but it is also a family name.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YYORGehoeK4/VkgH8o5QZeI/AAAAAAAAYJc/wWnaBX3Bv-M/s1600/SAM_5911.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YYORGehoeK4/VkgH8o5QZeI/AAAAAAAAYJc/wWnaBX3Bv-M/s320/SAM_5911.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This little piece of lace was crocheted by someone in my family. Either my mother, one of my grandmothers or my great grandmother! They all sewed, crocheted, knitted etc. I wish I knew who made it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwfigI4425Q9utpDsfkQBPPIlyBdzDaqmAwNX5mZse3CaIgjkJmynhafHyCt00sq0QPLvR5eOLJzOSGeMQxUSvReG9CD9dNJGqw2P2SQbdFG9H2ysLcPYEdm21jZU4bR94EBR9zsNim6d/s1600/SAM_5923.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwfigI4425Q9utpDsfkQBPPIlyBdzDaqmAwNX5mZse3CaIgjkJmynhafHyCt00sq0QPLvR5eOLJzOSGeMQxUSvReG9CD9dNJGqw2P2SQbdFG9H2ysLcPYEdm21jZU4bR94EBR9zsNim6d/s320/SAM_5923.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This one is for my children. All 3 of my children did gymnastics and my daughter also danced for many years.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jLec8TVasEE/VkgJ8sj8u9I/AAAAAAAAYJw/b79J2ygJAK0/s1600/SAM_5922.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jLec8TVasEE/VkgJ8sj8u9I/AAAAAAAAYJw/b79J2ygJAK0/s320/SAM_5922.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Some elephants for my husband because he is from Laos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7XIQIgzg_A8/VkgKQCUYekI/AAAAAAAAYJ4/ofvk-8hD1MM/s1600/SAM_5921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7XIQIgzg_A8/VkgKQCUYekI/AAAAAAAAYJ4/ofvk-8hD1MM/s320/SAM_5921.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Scissors for all the sewers in my family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJaQmp4Qhr2ZGesaErHTZKg7o0PiV1JiWE5wx8Ll5PcURF7vJeWaI63k3dnC7JZQ8IHh8qwPyzZNZKzECR_8XCr3bLVI0k3evvX0crD18ZBVi2jIoXuUK-GLiJUvLwmFxhDs6DNoKoJSb/s1600/SAM_5920.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJaQmp4Qhr2ZGesaErHTZKg7o0PiV1JiWE5wx8Ll5PcURF7vJeWaI63k3dnC7JZQ8IHh8qwPyzZNZKzECR_8XCr3bLVI0k3evvX0crD18ZBVi2jIoXuUK-GLiJUvLwmFxhDs6DNoKoJSb/s320/SAM_5920.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A piece of fabric that my daughter designed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rk1wAbt6pSc/VkgLT5P-yrI/AAAAAAAAYKE/_5wVDjGApEM/s1600/SAM_5916.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rk1wAbt6pSc/VkgLT5P-yrI/AAAAAAAAYKE/_5wVDjGApEM/s320/SAM_5916.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A piece of Liberty with all things "tea" because I love a cuppa! :)<br />
<br />
<br />
Lastly a favourite section of little pinwheel blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20ILzVbV2w4/VkgMX86Kb6I/AAAAAAAAYKQ/Pj5fDUIcCbM/s1600/SAM_5926.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20ILzVbV2w4/VkgMX86Kb6I/AAAAAAAAYKQ/Pj5fDUIcCbM/s320/SAM_5926.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have hand pieced everything so far and I am loving it! Thank you Jen for a fun quilt.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisLu-UlOdYWwbg5heCCDa22iSFIhwZIcbTtRrVSJfGMqkQxyvku_xcPomLR9cVcRuycJQsusnRk3fCoi5O9irdHzz5bUATVTQvUh9pNzW9fB8raU_YPfEkSnRn-usCwvqpv-sZSejVi6c2/s1600/20151110_124011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisLu-UlOdYWwbg5heCCDa22iSFIhwZIcbTtRrVSJfGMqkQxyvku_xcPomLR9cVcRuycJQsusnRk3fCoi5O9irdHzz5bUATVTQvUh9pNzW9fB8raU_YPfEkSnRn-usCwvqpv-sZSejVi6c2/s400/20151110_124011.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The corners are English paper pieced. I am hand stitching the whole quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fP1lcKF-m3s/VkGVUB3E8CI/AAAAAAAAXsc/dX2Sz0AfGe8/s1600/20151107_102315.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fP1lcKF-m3s/VkGVUB3E8CI/AAAAAAAAXsc/dX2Sz0AfGe8/s400/20151107_102315.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Before we went away to Japan I had all the little triangles cut out ready to piece. I managed to do only a little piecing in Japan, but I had a stitching marathon on the plane on the way home! :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LyaurrADHMw/VkGWKejVY_I/AAAAAAAAXss/UV0nRkMh_4I/s1600/20151018_164014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LyaurrADHMw/VkGWKejVY_I/AAAAAAAAXss/UV0nRkMh_4I/s320/20151018_164014.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next is a narrow appliqued border, then a wider pieced border. Still a long was to go!<br />
<br />
I did finish one small quilt earlier this year..<br />
<br />

There has been plenty of sewing happening, so I will start with my most recent start and come back with some more posts of what else I have been doing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AycEU3MjyCc/Vj59ykCo7DI/AAAAAAAAXh4/OCakuHQNXnw/s1600/SAM_5899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AycEU3MjyCc/Vj59ykCo7DI/AAAAAAAAXh4/OCakuHQNXnw/s400/SAM_5899.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have bitten by the clamshell bug!! I have never made clamshells before, so got some advice from others about what might be the best way to go.<br />
<br />
I decided to make my own clamshell template from template plastic. I found an old Mathomat one of the kids used at school to draw a 2 inch clamshell.<br />

<br />
<br />
Next I traced several clamshells on to freezer paper and tried applying spray starch with a paint brush and ironing over the curved edges. I didn't have much success with this. The freezer paper got soggy and stretched. Now I am using glue to stick down the folded edge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eDyi0eRNt1A/Vj5_qKp-mtI/AAAAAAAAXiQ/qLpGklR7Wt4/s1600/SAM_5898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eDyi0eRNt1A/Vj5_qKp-mtI/AAAAAAAAXiQ/qLpGklR7Wt4/s320/SAM_5898.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I plan to make just a small quilt with an Alison Glass Ex Libris in the centre and surrounded by clamshells. I have an Alison Glass border fabric that I plan to use also.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVibyDBRFa8wPMuv8eD-EN5k82cQYcXdwWlwgbBcHFwSAiZtc0AxqOB_aVfEp3Cd1rjk-H3p35bq5mJeceEoLCa7iKrito8cjADQPfBBvFOGRQO03NqoiRz432d1VhGqA8MOs7kBl7NtCD/s1600/SAM_5901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVibyDBRFa8wPMuv8eD-EN5k82cQYcXdwWlwgbBcHFwSAiZtc0AxqOB_aVfEp3Cd1rjk-H3p35bq5mJeceEoLCa7iKrito8cjADQPfBBvFOGRQO03NqoiRz432d1VhGqA8MOs7kBl7NtCD/s320/SAM_5901.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For the clamshells so far I have chosen a mixture of Alison Glass, Cotton and Steel, Karen Lewis Textiles and Maze and Vale fabrics.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Since I finished the 2 quilt tops in my previous posts, I have mostly stuck to making progress on 2 projects.<br />
<br />
The first is a new project using a pattern by Jen Kingwell. My Small World originally appeared in the Spring 2015 edition of Quiltmania. It is now available as a separate pattern. Below are parts 1 and 2 completed. I have almost finished part 3. I will do a new post about this quilt. Its been lots of fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V7LlNY3kISQ/Vj6CxJeKXwI/AAAAAAAAXis/sEWHBsPDIBI/s1600/SAM_5714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V7LlNY3kISQ/Vj6CxJeKXwI/AAAAAAAAXis/sEWHBsPDIBI/s320/SAM_5714.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have been continuing to work on Mountmellick, Di Ford's mystery quilt from Quiltmania last year. These little blocks are for Part 4. I have 2 sides attached and just the other 2 to sew on. Stand by for a separate post about Mountmellick too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_ArULTXol4/Vj6Btu9EYRI/AAAAAAAAXik/ZKZZPk1qacU/s1600/SAM_5893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_ArULTXol4/Vj6Btu9EYRI/AAAAAAAAXik/ZKZZPk1qacU/s320/SAM_5893.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You may notice the photo above was taken in a plane. We recently had a short holiday in Tokyo. There was some fabric shopping in amongst all the sightseeing!! Of course there will be a post about our experience in Tokyo too!!!<br />
<br />
Back soon! :)Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-81812187607211031802015-06-30T22:14:00.001+10:002015-06-30T22:14:34.316+10:00Two Quilt Tops Finished!!!It is always a long time between finishes when I have several projects going at once and many of them are by hand. Well, this month I have finally finished 2 quilt tops!!! Woohoo! :)<br />
<br />
The first finish is my hand pieced Lone Star. I started this quilt with several other ladies in my Friday Sewing group at Somerset Patchwork.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0zRe1o4MfUA/VZJ9T_B30mI/AAAAAAAAKpw/DdlzrqjZ_64/s1600/20150615_114159%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0zRe1o4MfUA/VZJ9T_B30mI/AAAAAAAAKpw/DdlzrqjZ_64/s400/20150615_114159%255B1%255D.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Every stitch is by hand, so it took me almost exactly 12 months to finish this top! I plan to machine quilt it (it is huge so would take too long to hand quilt!!), but have no idea how....yet!<br />
<br />
As usual. I have had several other projects on the go this month.<br />
<br />
I made a little pouch with some Cotton and Steel fabric as a gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rJXAzK7BMAg/VZJ-1W9SLkI/AAAAAAAAKp4/U9_V9RRzN7k/s1600/20150604_083227%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rJXAzK7BMAg/VZJ-1W9SLkI/AAAAAAAAKp4/U9_V9RRzN7k/s320/20150604_083227%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A little more progress has been made on Mountmellick.<br />
<br />
One of the corner blocks...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Iq3YyKbcioU/VZJ_vl8peJI/AAAAAAAAKqA/GylcI7JA6gA/s1600/20150604_221404%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Iq3YyKbcioU/VZJ_vl8peJI/AAAAAAAAKqA/GylcI7JA6gA/s320/20150604_221404%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
...and the completed border attached to the centre medallion I made last year!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uX4-NC0rbVw/VZKAyC4ZpoI/AAAAAAAAKqM/7tEo2qPVMOg/s1600/20150609_122521%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uX4-NC0rbVw/VZKAyC4ZpoI/AAAAAAAAKqM/7tEo2qPVMOg/s320/20150609_122521%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
.<br />
.Sorry its upside down!!<br />
<br />
I have started the next border. So far I have made 5 out of a dozen hexie flowers using half inch hexies.<br />
<br />
Next is another machine stitched block for Citrus Sweet Love.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-igMVM9e56wE/VZKCm_kvxAI/AAAAAAAAKqY/i8ft9sqe6BU/s1600/20150608_161010%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-igMVM9e56wE/VZKCm_kvxAI/AAAAAAAAKqY/i8ft9sqe6BU/s320/20150608_161010%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Last night I finished stitching the very last block of the Chester County Criswell Quilt, block 33.<br />
There have been several challenging blocks in this quilt and I think I found this one the most challenging!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zbLjQSU1jU8/VZKD0iI5tDI/AAAAAAAAKqg/GoLOmRjzrZs/s1600/20150629_210250%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zbLjQSU1jU8/VZKD0iI5tDI/AAAAAAAAKqg/GoLOmRjzrZs/s320/20150629_210250%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Today I machine stitched all the blocks together!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgExTy4VrBCPJkqkQr23us2htFnd43fYnBTlWQbkF5oI898-XpW99mJhFhoPCEdgrArr-9JTYpEvS3yUTH4Cr9jn32znG-BbIJ29LNxxO7emYFBssrcWuF9N8u8N7Viv9MCyn44YcYotnLl/s1600/20150630_145156%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgExTy4VrBCPJkqkQr23us2htFnd43fYnBTlWQbkF5oI898-XpW99mJhFhoPCEdgrArr-9JTYpEvS3yUTH4Cr9jn32znG-BbIJ29LNxxO7emYFBssrcWuF9N8u8N7Viv9MCyn44YcYotnLl/s400/20150630_145156%255B1%255D.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made the first block in August 2012 and there has been one block a month since then. Lots of hand applique!! I am going to miss stitching one of these blocks every month.<br />
This photo was just a quick shot taken outside. I hope to get some better photos over the next few days. It was fun pulling out all the blocks and remembering those I had stitched many months ago.<br />
<br />
Already I have chosen 2 more new quilts to start!!! Plus I have plans to keep working on some older WIP and get some more finishes!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I have all my <a href="http://collectorwithaneedle.blogspot.com.au/p/noah-and-matilda-album-quilt.html">Noah and Matilda </a>blocks sewn together! I opted with this layout because I want to hand quilt it. The original has the blocks on point with lots of blank blocks in between.<br />
I still have the borders to make. I (hopefully!) have all the grapes made and I have made a start on the flowers and leaves.<br />
<br />
Here are a few of my favourite blocks...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gu9awQcMR74/VWacznHXoxI/AAAAAAAAKoA/QuXvtc-E1Rs/s1600/SAM_5580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gu9awQcMR74/VWacznHXoxI/AAAAAAAAKoA/QuXvtc-E1Rs/s320/SAM_5580.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u_n-r1Kx8vE/VWac5W1puwI/AAAAAAAAKoI/oJQ7t5Pdq0Q/s1600/SAM_5581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u_n-r1Kx8vE/VWac5W1puwI/AAAAAAAAKoI/oJQ7t5Pdq0Q/s320/SAM_5581.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iW20KePhs3I/VWac8DDxUFI/AAAAAAAAKoQ/ca_aJhF0DqE/s1600/SAM_5582.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iW20KePhs3I/VWac8DDxUFI/AAAAAAAAKoQ/ca_aJhF0DqE/s320/SAM_5582.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have kept up with <a href="http://twobitspatches.com/chester-criswell-quilt/">CCCQ</a>, so here is the penultimate block!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h62Nuy7POvk/VWadWs0QXEI/AAAAAAAAKoY/bN_CfHnDDIo/s1600/SAM_5585.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h62Nuy7POvk/VWadWs0QXEI/AAAAAAAAKoY/bN_CfHnDDIo/s320/SAM_5585.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Block 32 Alice Carlile.<br />
<br />
I have started back stitching <a href="http://www.quiltmania.com/english/navigation-colonne-gauche/rubriques/copie-de-quilt-mystere-de-di-ford-2014.html">Mountellick </a>from last year's Quiltmania mystery BOM. I am working on part 2, the first border around the centre medallion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--MCiVRz6wPY/VWafpCI7ijI/AAAAAAAAKoo/8D0qAzW9tfc/s1600/20150506_131711%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--MCiVRz6wPY/VWafpCI7ijI/AAAAAAAAKoo/8D0qAzW9tfc/s320/20150506_131711%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I am using BOM fabrics from <a href="http://www.threadbear.com.au/">Threadbear</a>.<br />
<br />
I have put together some hexies using <a href="http://www.cottonandsteelfabrics.com/">Cotton & Steel fabrics</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xgPpLY1p-D0/VWahAOwmtnI/AAAAAAAAKow/5ILj-NzwkEY/s1600/20150519_200848%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xgPpLY1p-D0/VWahAOwmtnI/AAAAAAAAKow/5ILj-NzwkEY/s320/20150519_200848%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These are for the top of a <a href="http://www.michaelannmade.com/2015/04/the-tiny-box-zippy-pdf-sewing-pattern.html">small bag</a>.<br />
<br />
Earlier this week I visited a new shop here in Melbourne. <a href="http://www.cuttingcloth.com.au/">Cutting Cloth</a> has been open only a few days and is run by Kellie of Don't Look Now. The shop is set out beautifully.<br />
<br />
I came home with a lovely piece of Cotton & Steel lawn, some fat quarters of Alison Glass fabric and the perfect piece of fabric for my Joseph's Coat quilt that I started on line with Kellie several years ago! The top has been finished for ages. I have just been trying to find the prefect backing fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KfW5C9bb_Z4/VWakH4D7VjI/AAAAAAAAKo8/S5Uc2vALSt4/s1600/20150526_131330%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KfW5C9bb_Z4/VWakH4D7VjI/AAAAAAAAKo8/S5Uc2vALSt4/s320/20150526_131330%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Today I put the last stitch in the binding of small quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jgsax-kL434/VWalacB6HvI/AAAAAAAAKpE/dyexTELUOMs/s1600/20150528_134446%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jgsax-kL434/VWalacB6HvI/AAAAAAAAKpE/dyexTELUOMs/s320/20150528_134446%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

More photos when the quilt has been gifted.Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-28629776024514352962015-04-21T14:25:00.002+10:002015-04-21T14:25:28.215+10:00Back again!!! With stitching and a review of Tulip Needles.Well, March has zoomed by and we are into the 2nd half of April already!<br />
March was a bit hectic around here and I ended up getting sick earlier this month. I'm well on the road to recovery now! :)<br />
<br />
A little down time has meant I have been able to catch up on some sewing.<br />
<br />
Last week I finished sewing together all 8 sections on my Lone Star.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0UsykqTvqUg/VTXA5tJUopI/AAAAAAAAKkg/CIiVyB4OlUM/s1600/SAM_5567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0UsykqTvqUg/VTXA5tJUopI/AAAAAAAAKkg/CIiVyB4OlUM/s1600/SAM_5567.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next will be the setting squares and triangles. I am still deciding whether to applique some smaller stars on the background fabric.<br />
<br />
I've managed to keep up with the Chester Criswell blocks.<br />
<br />
Block 30<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jAUrqYR7mjg/VTXBnL_AW0I/AAAAAAAAKko/B5hQ7evfV7A/s1600/SAM_5545.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jAUrqYR7mjg/VTXBnL_AW0I/AAAAAAAAKko/B5hQ7evfV7A/s1600/SAM_5545.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
and block 31.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEBUu0F8ybZRCHAo22prPCGOpMAwZ5iKBPS_NwDvPq2QJ9ZbJvLU1a3hmjoGg7EEb-fNtfRI7OMU43SjzkAfGLBYKdVyb2eDgs11ApFWQg2sWQm657uWTZx2iWCT1zKDSi7sA8-WR41CMh/s1600/SAM_5571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEBUu0F8ybZRCHAo22prPCGOpMAwZ5iKBPS_NwDvPq2QJ9ZbJvLU1a3hmjoGg7EEb-fNtfRI7OMU43SjzkAfGLBYKdVyb2eDgs11ApFWQg2sWQm657uWTZx2iWCT1zKDSi7sA8-WR41CMh/s1600/SAM_5571.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Only 2 more blocks to go!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
I have completed one more block for Citrus Sweet Love.<br />

<br />
The next block is half finished. I hope to get that one done tonight.<br />
<br />
For Noah and Matilda I have made a little pile of purple grapes for the border. Lots more to go! I have extra fabric for the vines coming in the post, so when that arrives Noah and Matilda will be full steam ahead again!<br />
<br />
Recently I purchased a set of Tulip Needles. They are beautifully packaged!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PCBY7_ShbXA/VTXFTgP5dYI/AAAAAAAAKlE/G-ncraTcpd8/s1600/20150413_175355%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PCBY7_ShbXA/VTXFTgP5dYI/AAAAAAAAKlE/G-ncraTcpd8/s1600/20150413_175355%5B1%5D.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Sorry the photo is up side down!!<br />
<br />
I have tried a few of them now.<br />
<br />
The sewing needles are no. 9 and are a bit thicker than I am used to using. The gold eye is easy to thread and think they will be good to use for general sewing.<br />
<br />
The milliners needles come in 3 sizes. I choose the finest needle to try out. It is a longer needle with a small eye. I didn't have trouble threading Aurfil 50. The needle has some "flex".<br />
<br />
So far my favourite needle is the applique needle. It is shorter than the milliners, but has a much larger eye.<br />
I have used both Aurifil 50 for piecing and YLI silk for applique using the milliners and the applique needle. Both needles have "flex" and are nice and thin. When I first started using the needles I encountered some "resistance" to the needles passing through the fabric. However, I persevered with stitching to give the needles a good try out. I am wondering if there is some kind of coating on the needles because after some use they become much easier to pass through the fabric. I had no trouble finding the only needle I had used after it had been put back with all the others.<br />
<br />
<br />
I hope everyone is finding lots of stitching time! :)<br />

It has been an overcast, humid day with the promise of some much needed rain tonight.<br />
<br />
February has had some days of no stitching at all and other days when I have achieved lots. :)<br />
<br />
I made a start on <a href="http://www.treehousetextiles.com.au/">Citrus Sweet Love.</a> The first block, Emma's Puzzle finished using all Cotton & Steel fabrics. I machine pieced this block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M-oh7egXMHc/VPFSfwuF2KI/AAAAAAAAJU0/VEliFZBlDnk/s1600/20150211_152542%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M-oh7egXMHc/VPFSfwuF2KI/AAAAAAAAJU0/VEliFZBlDnk/s1600/20150211_152542%5B1%5D.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I finished a mini with some fabric from a fat quarter swap our sewing group had just before Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgwCgDSbRQeBGYQVlHS6YoqheUGqf0TQdcuGJUsnAga8uCiBLGmmLF2GLJqSquN1VF-OYg35VLZ41m8rCcpPsDELeSZJ7efPoYUioOcHZjfi9a65i_VT8C9jdyU6Q13OJ9pXCVqifA2MRP/s1600/20150216_081519%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgwCgDSbRQeBGYQVlHS6YoqheUGqf0TQdcuGJUsnAga8uCiBLGmmLF2GLJqSquN1VF-OYg35VLZ41m8rCcpPsDELeSZJ7efPoYUioOcHZjfi9a65i_VT8C9jdyU6Q13OJ9pXCVqifA2MRP/s1600/20150216_081519%5B1%5D.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The fabrics are Yuwa and Cotton & Steel. I was inspired by a table runner I saw posted by @quiltsandwichfabrics on Instagram. The mini is machine pieced and I hand quilted it using DMC 80.<br />
More of the Yuwa fabric was used making the pouch I showed in my February 1st post.<br />
<br />
My Lone Star is coming along slowly. I've almost finished the 6th section of the star!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://collectorwithaneedle.blogspot.com.au/p/noah-and-matilda-album-quilt.html">Noah and Matilda </a>has been sitting on the side lines, somewhat. I have made more than 20 little grapes for the border. There is still a long way to go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xFv6DhiM0T8/VPFTSQ4fuyI/AAAAAAAAJU8/fIc0sRjgz10/s1600/SAM_5542.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xFv6DhiM0T8/VPFTSQ4fuyI/AAAAAAAAJU8/fIc0sRjgz10/s1600/SAM_5542.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This week I managed to complete February's <a href="http://chestercriswellquilt.blogspot.com.au/">CCCQ</a>, block 29, Maria Criswell. Only 4 more block patterns to come for this quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Ficq_En6HA/VPFUBzZGtiI/AAAAAAAAJVE/0O7bgNM_tTI/s1600/SAM_5540.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Ficq_En6HA/VPFUBzZGtiI/AAAAAAAAJVE/0O7bgNM_tTI/s1600/SAM_5540.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have also sewn a little more on the hexagons I showed in the February 1st post. <br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to a day of hand stitching with friends tomorrow. :) I hope to get that 6th lone star section finished!Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-52047470487210669162015-02-24T04:55:00.000+11:002015-02-24T04:55:21.270+11:00Some recent blooms from my garden:<br />

Each year the a ceremony is held to give thanks to the needles that needle workers have used in their stitching over the last 12 months. Seamstresses and embroiderers take their broken and worn needles to a shrine where the needles are placed in tofu or jelly. The ceremony is to give gratitude and show respect to the needles and to pray for improved needle working skills. The belief is that inanimate objects also have a soul and as women stitch they pass their burdens onto their needles The needles are given a soft resting place.<br />
<br />
Several years ago I participated in a course held by <a href="http://plays-with-needles.blogspot.com.au/">Susan Elliott</a> to create a needlebook.<br />
<br />
My needle book has been well used.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The last page of this book is where broken and worn needles are stored.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I place my needles in a piece of batting and put that in a small container and bury it in my rose garden.<br />
<br />
I have made several needle books now and given them as gifts.<br />
<br />
Hari-Kuyo is a fascinating tradition that has been celebrated for several hundred years.<br />
<br />
To read more about how I made my first needlebook and lots more about this wonderful tradition see <a href="http://www.yellowrosequilts.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/hari-kuyo-needlebook-finished.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Susan has a post about the festival and how to create your own needlebook <a href="http://www.plays-with-needles.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/two-days-until-harikuyo-2015.html">here</a> .<br />
<br />
Have you made a needle book?<br />

With an enormous choice of new quilts appearing I have chosen 2 that have been around for a little while.<br />
<br />
The first is Sweet Citrus Love, a quilt pattern available from <a href="http://www.treehousetextiles.com.au/store-news/">Treehouse Textiles</a> and designed by Emma, Sarah and <a href="http://cabbagequilts.blogspot.com.au/">Cathy</a>. I plan to use mostly <a href="http://www.cottonandsteelfabrics.com/">Cotton and Steel fabrics</a> for this quilt.<br />
<br />
Here I have started auditioning fabrics for the first block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbhhI6SFIgoTYddKWaNNC1EjGulMD-2-hVnASsj7dK31bo3sFPAGCU5WHRzqBSx_IbwheKZgLEjG-u2t0Z7nBLbNYX1PAhUQw8mTe41jZICq6QuQxBtSKvTvgMXqftTRD-dAaWVW78Dq15/s1600/SAM_5518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbhhI6SFIgoTYddKWaNNC1EjGulMD-2-hVnASsj7dK31bo3sFPAGCU5WHRzqBSx_IbwheKZgLEjG-u2t0Z7nBLbNYX1PAhUQw8mTe41jZICq6QuQxBtSKvTvgMXqftTRD-dAaWVW78Dq15/s1600/SAM_5518.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am using a mixture of fabrics from both quilting cotton collections from C & S.<br />
Citrus Sweet Love is a great combination of both piecing and applique. I plan to make this quilt by hand.<br />
<br />
My 2nd quilt will be La Passacaglia from a Quiltmania book by Willyn Hammerstein. It is the cover quilt in<a href="http://www.quiltmania.com/livreVirtuel/index.php?livre=willyne-hammerstein"> this </a>book. Again I will be using lots of Cotton & Steel fabrics and stitching by hand. I don't expect to finish this quilt any time soon!!! Lol I have seen lots of versions on blogs and Instagram and the colour choices I have seen are very inspiring!!! Almost every quilt I have seen has been made using English paper piecing. However, I am going to have a go at making it just piecing.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now for some things I have been stitching over the last few weeks.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
This won't be the final arrangement of blocks. I just wanted to see them all together. Next week I will start the border blocks. It is going to take a while; there are something like 200 tiny grapes to make!!!!<br />
<br />
I finished block 28 of <a href="http://chestercriswellquilt.blogspot.com.au/">CCCQ</a>, Mary McDowell. (patterns available <a href="http://twobitspatches.com/product-category/chester-criswell-quilt/">here</a>)<br />

<br />
<br />
Only 5 more blocks to go!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Mostly I hand stitch at night after dinner. When I have time during the day I stitch on the machine.<br />
At the end of last year one of the stitch groups I am in had a fat quarter swap. I decided to make a mini and a small pouch. I wish I had taken a photo of the original fabric, but you will just have to imagine it! Lol Here is a small peek at the mini. I am still hand quilting...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-00VyBhPhQew/VMzER23D8cI/AAAAAAAAJOM/4H3303G89zM/s1600/IMG_20150124_120931%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-00VyBhPhQew/VMzER23D8cI/AAAAAAAAJOM/4H3303G89zM/s1600/IMG_20150124_120931%5B1%5D.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I appliqued circles from the fabric to use on the pouch:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GB9MvL1i8YE/VMzEwtAKO9I/AAAAAAAAJOU/NsLaZjJ8g5c/s1600/SAM_5508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GB9MvL1i8YE/VMzEwtAKO9I/AAAAAAAAJOU/NsLaZjJ8g5c/s1600/SAM_5508.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The exterior fabrics and Cotton and Steel. For the lining I used a piece of fabric by <a href="http://www.quilters-barn.com/">Julie Wallace</a>, and Australian quilter and designer, who passed away late last year.<br />
<br />
Another machine project is something I decided to attempt after seeing a quilt on <a href="http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com.au/">Jacquie's blog,</a> Tallgrass Prairie Studio. Tutorial<a href="http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/sewing-hexagons-by-machine-without.html"> here</a>. This will be a mini quilt of hexagons entirely pieced by machine. I am about half finished right now, but here is a photo from earlier....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_D_lTmFRfdA/VMzGQSLJ4NI/AAAAAAAAJOg/8wdjDe2Ijq4/s1600/IMG_20150115_144811%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_D_lTmFRfdA/VMzGQSLJ4NI/AAAAAAAAJOg/8wdjDe2Ijq4/s1600/IMG_20150115_144811%5B1%5D.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have used a mixture of Cotton and Steel and <a href="http://mazeandvale.bigcartel.com/">Maze and Vale</a> fabrics. This project has been a huge lesson for me in very accurate cutting and very accurate 1/4 inch seams!! (there has been some unpicking, trimming and re-stitching!)<br />
<br />
My Lone Star quilt is still growing. No photos this month, but the next section is more than half done.<br />
<br />
You may remember that last year I was lucky enough to win a very generous giveaway on Lynne's blog, <a href="http://lilysquilts.blogspot.com.au/">Lily's Quilts.</a>, where I won 12 fat quarters of Cotton and Steel fabric a month for 12 months from <a href="http://www.pinkcastlefabrics.com/">Pink Castle Fabrics.</a> I really want to again thank Lynne, the ladies at Pink Castle and the ladies at Cotton and Steel. While I still love reproduction fabrics and recreating quilts from the past, in the last few months the direction of my sewing and quilting has been moving to more "modern" sewing. I have been inspired by these new fabrics to take a new look at the types of quilts I make. Now I need twice as many sewing hours every day!! Lol!!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The latest bundle from <a href="http://www.pinkcastlefabrics.com/pages/cotton-steel-club">Pink Castle's Cotton and Steel Club</a>:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Love those butterflies! :)<br />
<br />
Lastly, a photo of the flowering gum in our back yard.<br />

Have a great weekend, everyone! :)Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-50406457775785492302015-01-08T23:45:00.001+11:002015-01-08T23:45:26.112+11:00Ahhh, Applique!!! How I have missed you!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_HRTb8CafYw/VK5uYD6-T1I/AAAAAAAAFDI/Lj4qd2JfOi8/s1600/IMG_20150108_160706%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_HRTb8CafYw/VK5uYD6-T1I/AAAAAAAAFDI/Lj4qd2JfOi8/s1600/IMG_20150108_160706%5B1%5D.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It has been quite a while since I did any applique. In fact, so long that the callous on my fingertip was gone and I had to get out my thimblepads!<br />
<br />
I have, finally, begun working on the last 4 blocks for Noah and Matilda. One and a half blocks done!<br />
<br />
There has been plenty of stitching happening here, but its all been on the machine.<br />
<br />
Another bag for a gift;<br />

<br />
A small purse using Cotton and Steel fabrics:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KTepQ7jOIY/VK5wYKsuy5I/AAAAAAAAFDw/wnldRkQahaE/s1600/SAM_5461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KTepQ7jOIY/VK5wYKsuy5I/AAAAAAAAFDw/wnldRkQahaE/s1600/SAM_5461.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2nhLP7rb1kk/VK5wb-LFeZI/AAAAAAAAFD4/2jaAx9paeQY/s1600/SAM_5462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2nhLP7rb1kk/VK5wb-LFeZI/AAAAAAAAFD4/2jaAx9paeQY/s1600/SAM_5462.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
and another little dumpling pouch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pMa0pbUqUaE/VK5wwsnZUpI/AAAAAAAAFEA/l2mE3DOTOGY/s1600/SAM_5476.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pMa0pbUqUaE/VK5wwsnZUpI/AAAAAAAAFEA/l2mE3DOTOGY/s1600/SAM_5476.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The dumpling is made using a soft cotton lawn from Moda's Regent Street by Sentimental Studios.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2j6AXBHF8xY/VK5xPlLw0RI/AAAAAAAAFEI/_GJ5tTtsIkk/s1600/SAM_5479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2j6AXBHF8xY/VK5xPlLw0RI/AAAAAAAAFEI/_GJ5tTtsIkk/s1600/SAM_5479.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These fabrics are reminiscent of Liberties, both in hand and print design.<br />
<br />
Some more fabrics made it here too...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHEilGgcIGobEaAmNARm3U5dVsczzC-N8dYwk4nKeMpQJRpI3QiPKGn5d5PEBx85U2JA4UhlqFkUYpjYgp63B36r-_VpLxAv2-Bb7w3zbg5tOU_Eaw9dEnhGuLMwzXxfjYUebTXRYAGoC8/s1600/SAM_5478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHEilGgcIGobEaAmNARm3U5dVsczzC-N8dYwk4nKeMpQJRpI3QiPKGn5d5PEBx85U2JA4UhlqFkUYpjYgp63B36r-_VpLxAv2-Bb7w3zbg5tOU_Eaw9dEnhGuLMwzXxfjYUebTXRYAGoC8/s1600/SAM_5478.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
A new monthly installment from Pink Castle's Cotton and Steel club. This little selection took the scenic route via Canada, so was most welcome when it finally arrived!<br />
I also scored 3 panels from a recent sale by Maze and Vale.<br />
<br />
<br />
I had a quick look through what I had posted about in 2014.<br />
The year started off with both continuing and new projects. Lots of stitching has been done on CCCQ and Noah and Matilda BOMs. I have, mostly, kept up. CCCQ will have only 5 or 6 more blocks to finish this year. For Noah and Matilda there are now only 2 1/2 blocks and the borders to finish and the top will be done!<br />
<br />
I continued with Jane Pizar, making some of the blocks that surround the centre medallion. Mountmellic, the Quiltmania mystery quilt by Di Ford, was another project I started in 2014.<br />
<br />
I made a quilt for my MIL using swoon blocks and started a Lone Star quilt.<br />
<br />
The biggest news of 2014 was the birth of my grandson, the first grandchild for both sides of the family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ec9xNZ8bq5w/VK57I0nYb4I/AAAAAAAAFEg/PQA3hjZ8EHU/s1600/IMG-20141125-WA0000%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ec9xNZ8bq5w/VK57I0nYb4I/AAAAAAAAFEg/PQA3hjZ8EHU/s1600/IMG-20141125-WA0000%5B1%5D.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Lots of my stitching for this year was for him!! Knitting, crochet, a nappy bag, 3 quilts of varying sizes and a fabric book.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In my next post I will talk about my stitching plans for 2015!<br />
<br />
Happy New Year!!!!<br />
<br />

Some piecing and some applique.<br />
<br />
Slowly but steadily my lone star is growing. Half way there now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EBC5LhucX_c/VJlJjqqM8jI/AAAAAAAAFBM/WGo5Y5Lzsm4/s1600/SAM_5438.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EBC5LhucX_c/VJlJjqqM8jI/AAAAAAAAFBM/WGo5Y5Lzsm4/s1600/SAM_5438.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Its getting huge!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
I finally finished November's Noah and Matilda blocks.<br />
<br />
Here is my completed Flower Wreath block from my last post. The yellow flower centres are french knots.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2FpS0fMLqKY/VJlKD_vl_CI/AAAAAAAAFBU/0wzGPZ7bLwM/s1600/SAM_5432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2FpS0fMLqKY/VJlKD_vl_CI/AAAAAAAAFBU/0wzGPZ7bLwM/s1600/SAM_5432.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This next block looked a bit daunting at first! I began by making the centre section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JczzH3r9CGQ/VJlK5J453II/AAAAAAAAFBc/c56NWLHav2E/s1600/SAM_5431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JczzH3r9CGQ/VJlK5J453II/AAAAAAAAFBc/c56NWLHav2E/s1600/SAM_5431.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then appliqued it over the rest of the block.<br />
<br />
Rose Beauty complete:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUg3j40xxCybnBA1pLLOYBqtDhB_b5zl5bDkldLfbrU911dOknJGz8HJMKYHFP5vPO4xj9mKpWuqzqxI-UhiF14rAmhOlEFEGD4Uoq6mXtFyTvpkZmw7APTXtaUDf1QjaX5AzEj1i_wH4L/s1600/SAM_5433.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUg3j40xxCybnBA1pLLOYBqtDhB_b5zl5bDkldLfbrU911dOknJGz8HJMKYHFP5vPO4xj9mKpWuqzqxI-UhiF14rAmhOlEFEGD4Uoq6mXtFyTvpkZmw7APTXtaUDf1QjaX5AzEj1i_wH4L/s1600/SAM_5433.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
All three November blocks complete:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9iYvaCUFiU/VJlMHRRkU6I/AAAAAAAAFBs/Wu-BwZGE1ig/s1600/SAM_5435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9iYvaCUFiU/VJlMHRRkU6I/AAAAAAAAFBs/Wu-BwZGE1ig/s1600/SAM_5435.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There are 4 blocks again for December. I've prepared the freezer paper templates and chosen the fabrics, so its almost stitching time.<br />
<br />
A couple of nights ago I finished the latest Chester Criswell block.<br />
<br />
CCCQ Block 27 Susanna Criswell.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OgcWo8VpWTk/VJlNaOdG0VI/AAAAAAAAFB0/eD8Zif2G8no/s1600/SAM_5450.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OgcWo8VpWTk/VJlNaOdG0VI/AAAAAAAAFB0/eD8Zif2G8no/s1600/SAM_5450.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On the machine I have been making purses and bags.<br />
<br />
I used Cotton and Steel fabrics for this little purse. On the outside I stitched cross stitch with pearl thread over the little crosses printed on the fabric.<br />

It feels like it should be about August, not almost December.<br />
<br />
This month has been particularly busy for me, so there has been a bit less time for stitching.<br />
<br />
My priorities are my 2 BOM subscriptions.<br />
<br />
We are up to Block 26 with the <a href="http://chestercriswellquilt.blogspot.com.au/">Chester Criswell Quilt</a>. I love the design of this block!!<br />

<br />
<br />
So far I have completed only 1 1/2 blocks for Noah and Matilda.<br />

<br />
<br />
I will get another photo up when its done. Take a look at a photo of Dawn's version of the block<a href="http://collectorwithaneedle.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/noah-and-matilda-month-11.html"> here</a>. I love this block!!! I think this block would make a wonderful centre for a small medallion quilt!<br />
<br />
Here is some of what has been keeping me busy;<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7k-h9c_L-G4/VHlRXFa_VSI/AAAAAAAAFAQ/pWLM0wgz2Q0/s1600/20141115_083448%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7k-h9c_L-G4/VHlRXFa_VSI/AAAAAAAAFAQ/pWLM0wgz2Q0/s1600/20141115_083448%5B1%5D.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
My daughter has started making and selling clothes and accessories for babies and children, concentrating on boys clothes, but not forgetting the girls. A couple of days a week I take care of my grandson while she sews. Her business is young and she has started doing some craft markets as well as having a<a href="http://www.kromekids.bigcartel.com/"> webpage</a>, a Facebook page (Krome Butterfly) and an Instagram account. (@Kromekids) If you are on or near the Mornington Peninsula tomorrow we will be at the Point Nepean Craft Market at Portsea. Come and say hi if you visit.<br />
<br />
<br />
I'll be back soon with more stitching. There are a few more things I have been sewing. :)<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone!!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The boat quilt for my grandson is finished. This quilt will be for his cot.<br />
<br />
It is quilted simply with stitch-in-the-ditch around each boat and a wave shape on each alternate block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9b1o-kBWa3k/VFVyumjwb2I/AAAAAAAAE9o/hGsYeG876MM/s1600/SAM_5401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9b1o-kBWa3k/VFVyumjwb2I/AAAAAAAAE9o/hGsYeG876MM/s1600/SAM_5401.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used a fabric with all over boats for the backing and I even found a preprinted label with a boat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4dMskJUOf80wNstaY-hITXJfZgMrqpYJWgHyW7JiZInW5uXTb4RD06fC2p8ChqsfirdH7gAg3bJU6uMAVYqZW1dhWGNhx51REHbCC79cYg47ox0hwZeMsYj5TLbj1FaPLf9e8P25Ct7UP/s1600/SAM_5402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4dMskJUOf80wNstaY-hITXJfZgMrqpYJWgHyW7JiZInW5uXTb4RD06fC2p8ChqsfirdH7gAg3bJU6uMAVYqZW1dhWGNhx51REHbCC79cYg47ox0hwZeMsYj5TLbj1FaPLf9e8P25Ct7UP/s1600/SAM_5402.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
All soft and crinkly after a wash.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
This months <a href="http://chestercriswellquilt.blogspot.com.au/">CCCQ</a> block looked deceptively simple....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4-0XA668aM8/VFVzveBKFCI/AAAAAAAAE-A/uzVqTFRyrws/s1600/SAM_5378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4-0XA668aM8/VFVzveBKFCI/AAAAAAAAE-A/uzVqTFRyrws/s1600/SAM_5378.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Block 25, Sarah Stubbs' block.<br />
<br />
All those curves took a while to stitch.<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to making Block 26 this month; Love the pattern of this one!<br />

<br />
<br />
I procrastinated over the third block! lol<br />
<br />
Pineapple.<br />

<br />
<br />
Not perfect, but done.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://collectorwithaneedle.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/noah-and-matilda-month-11.html">Dawn has posted photos </a>of her blocks for November. I'm looking forward to making these. The 3rd one looks a bit of a challenge.....but I love a challenge!! :)<br />
<br />
Mid month also brought my next installment of Cotton and Steel fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYpJKe3j50zufcmZichuxfrc2gZx43HTIMR407n6ERYmWIeMkJsmioR3Lfiajnx1LsUltYRjrqz0X-OiOTimgXKlwn9e1CMn8zDO4CcmVFP8lS5DiL7sJHseLPPkkGAhFO126uEgX_3RC/s1600/SAM_5375.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYpJKe3j50zufcmZichuxfrc2gZx43HTIMR407n6ERYmWIeMkJsmioR3Lfiajnx1LsUltYRjrqz0X-OiOTimgXKlwn9e1CMn8zDO4CcmVFP8lS5DiL7sJHseLPPkkGAhFO126uEgX_3RC/s1600/SAM_5375.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
(only 11 fabrics here. Somehow I left one out after admiring them all!)<br />
<br />
I've started cutting out hexies from some of these fabrics. I need about 100, so a little way to go yet. These are 2 1/4 inches. The top and bottom fabrics in the left column are <a href="http://mazeandvale.bigcartel.com/">Maze and Vale</a> fabrics. I think they make perfect partners for Cotton and Steel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XgvHuKHhUQA/VFV4KCpNgSI/AAAAAAAAE-4/O4LnuVA9hS8/s1600/SAM_5381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XgvHuKHhUQA/VFV4KCpNgSI/AAAAAAAAE-4/O4LnuVA9hS8/s1600/SAM_5381.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Yesterday we had a visit from a dear friend who has just come back from several weeks overseas. She brought back these books she found in a small town in Sussex, England.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nCJewe_mfDY/VFV4ys5wfcI/AAAAAAAAE_A/oEPLXBrEEAA/s1600/SAM_5404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nCJewe_mfDY/VFV4ys5wfcI/AAAAAAAAE_A/oEPLXBrEEAA/s1600/SAM_5404.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Perfect reading for a cold and damp Sunday. Looks like there is lots of inspiration behind those covers. :)<br />
<br />
Have a great Sunday, everyone! :)<br />

<br />
What a beautiful quilt to greet us at Quilts in the Barn this year!! This brilliant version of Homage to Sally-Ann was hand appliqued and machine quilted by Helen Hayes.<br />
<br />
Quilts in the Barn is a wonderful 3 day event held every year by Linda Collins and her many helpers who make the day a huge success. All proceeds go to breast cancer research.<br />
<br />
I had a day of quilts, friends, meeting new people from here and overseas, and sharing of food, fun and lots of laughter.<br />
<br />
Lots of photos following!!!<br />
<br />
After a quick tour of the quilts I went to meet one of Linda's international guests and one of my quilting heroes.<br />

Me with Brenda Papadakis, of Dear Jane fame!!<br />
<br />
I started my Dear Jane in January 2008, at a time in my life where hand sewing saved my sanity. It was an absolute delight for me to meet Brenda and have a chat with her.<br />
<br />
Brenda signed one of my Dear Jane blocks:<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I also purchased Brenda's new pattern.<br />

<br />
<br />
Once around the barn is never enough, so off I went to have a more detailed look at the quilts. :)<br />

I first saw a photo of this quilt many years ago and I was entranced by it!!! I fell in love with this style of quilt! Unfortunately I couldn't find that photo again, so I couldn't make the quilt. I was very delighted to find out Patty was coming to Quilts in the Barn and that she was responsible for this stunning quilt!!<br />
The original quilt is in The State Museum of Pennsylvania. Patty made exact drawings and notes and all the blocks were made by friends of hers. The quilt was hand quilted by an 87 year old lady in just one month!! Even the quilting is an exact copy of the original.<br />
<br />
Patty had discs for sale. She even signed the cover for me!!<br />

The cover block is my favourite block.<br />
<br />
Patty also gave me a personal lesson on back basting. I'm eager to give it a try.<br />
<br />
Patty and Brenda took classes and gave talks while they were here with Linda.<br />
Patty's class was for this quilt.<br />

Yesterday I met a group of four ladies who are all making Dear Jane together. They have finished al the centre blocks and are working on their triangles. We had a lovely chat while talking with Brenda, then shared a cuppa together.<br />

Just a little story about the first quilt in this post. I first saw Homage to Sally-Ann hanging in Di Ford's shop, Primarily Patchwork, in 2005 or 2006. I had gone to the shop to learn how to quilt and I was taking a class for a hand sampler with 5 other ladies. When I saw Homage to Sally-Ann hanging in the shop I fell in love with that quilt. I said to myself, "when I'm good enough" I want to make that quilt!Well, 8 or 9 years later I have bought the pattern, chosen fabrics, changed ny mind on fabrics, chosen more fabrics................and that is as far as I have got!!!<br />
Do you also have a quilt like this, hidden away in a cupboard, waiting for the right time to be made?<br />

My lone star is growing with the third point being attached this week. I am finally happy with all the fabrics I am using.<br />
<br />
Last month Moda ran a <a href="http://blog.modafabrics.com/2014/09/moda-designer-blog-tour/">"Moda Love" blog tour</a>. I saw several of their designer's blogs with great quilts. Moda supplied a free pattern with instructions in 3 sizes. I decided to use some of my Cotton and Steel fabrics to make the smallest size.<br />

The selvedge says "Tree of Life" by Di Ford with Petra Prins and Nel Kooiman for Dutch Heritage" I found it at <a href="http://www.somersetpatchwork.com.au/current/index.html">Somerset Patchwork and Quilting.</a><br />
<br />
If you look <a href="http://www.yellowrosequilts.blogspot.com.au/2013/09/quilts-in-barn-2013.html"> here </a>you will see my photo of a Tree of Life Quilt from Quilts in the Barn last year. (fourth and fifth photos) The centre panel of the quilt is all appliqued and is the same as the printed panel above.<br />

I am looking forward to <a href="http://quiltsinthebarnaus.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/quilts-in-barn-2014.html">this year's Quilts In The Barn,</a> which is on this Friday Saturday and Sunday. Each year Linda very generously donates all proceeds to Breast Cancer Research. If you live close enough it is a great day out for a great cause.<br />
<br />
Happy sewing<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-znCJxUOQdA4/VC6M5RplDjI/AAAAAAAAE30/kQHK4VeC5hw/s1600/SAM_5354.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-znCJxUOQdA4/VC6M5RplDjI/AAAAAAAAE30/kQHK4VeC5hw/s1600/SAM_5354.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Just made it!!<br />
<br />
This month there are only 3 blocks, but one looks like a doozy!! Lol<br />
<br />
I have been trying to get a photo of all my CCCQ blocks together in one place. I tried outside (not enough space inside) a couple of times, but each time a breeze blew just as I was taking the photo and blocks went everywhere!<br />
Finally I have a photo!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1NRLvmIvX28/VC6OBLPubjI/AAAAAAAAE38/zcx1ZnECu0s/s1600/SAM_5351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1NRLvmIvX28/VC6OBLPubjI/AAAAAAAAE38/zcx1ZnECu0s/s1600/SAM_5351.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There are just 9 more blocks to go!<br />
<br />
A quick update on some other stitching. My lone star is progressing slowly. I have almost finished the 3rd section.<br />
I have also started cutting and sewing up some of my Cotton and Steel fabric,<br />
<br />
Some family news... My daughter has just released a new range of clothes and accessories for babies and young children. To see some of her designs take a look at @kromekids on Instagram or Krome Butterfly on Facebook.<br />
<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone! :)<br />

<br />
I finished an alphabet wall hanging for my Grandson this week. He is enchanted with all the bright colours. I bought the panel a few months ago and simply used a cotton batting, machine quilted it around each square and bound it with a red and white spot.<br />
<br />
This morning I started quilting his boat quilt.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I have been playing around with choosing patterns and fabrics for my next project/s!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyhKG8bhYRS2sA1lvw_m-JCKQJYBqQYWu_RvNLf0k2wPRC6pZpIMX3683OcH9aZnzwMZAeAbBFBRyRsBdTJwQZKqTyqo4fsG9Edj_uwysqK827_jEjNoe3uTQ1StbbhS96T27mOYcw9u1s/s1600/SAM_5299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyhKG8bhYRS2sA1lvw_m-JCKQJYBqQYWu_RvNLf0k2wPRC6pZpIMX3683OcH9aZnzwMZAeAbBFBRyRsBdTJwQZKqTyqo4fsG9Edj_uwysqK827_jEjNoe3uTQ1StbbhS96T27mOYcw9u1s/s1600/SAM_5299.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvnEeLH_LclRIVQ7RWFbdFlATdyutxiql5rvgrY-8WqF4jn0fL2SwZDoN_ASoY3W4GwjRxydFC8dLteWlli9_X0wRCmbcjWVlQ2qjCpMpjsbjzkdpurI8QSvW0iRAy_xL-aCBJz82EJms1/s1600/SAM_5301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvnEeLH_LclRIVQ7RWFbdFlATdyutxiql5rvgrY-8WqF4jn0fL2SwZDoN_ASoY3W4GwjRxydFC8dLteWlli9_X0wRCmbcjWVlQ2qjCpMpjsbjzkdpurI8QSvW0iRAy_xL-aCBJz82EJms1/s1600/SAM_5301.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have had these patterns for a little while now, waiting for the right fabrics to come along. I won't be starting them for a while, but its is always fun to play with putting fabrics and colours together.<br />
<br />
I haven't been ignoring my reproduction fabrics.<br />
<br />
This week I also finished the next CCCQ block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgJ2UlXso5LtWdWXFGP5mhMqkZ7lFD_SgoEJA3VlIXVebr9P79L5HUdTygWfgUr36dGX3DeT4fO4YbCIACQPerPuUt92DdWi8nvkA8TXzCDl7u7oOgBlkOVkoeuWZMeoTW1WTni5-NqZ55/s1600/20140913_125531%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgJ2UlXso5LtWdWXFGP5mhMqkZ7lFD_SgoEJA3VlIXVebr9P79L5HUdTygWfgUr36dGX3DeT4fO4YbCIACQPerPuUt92DdWi8nvkA8TXzCDl7u7oOgBlkOVkoeuWZMeoTW1WTni5-NqZ55/s1600/20140913_125531%5B1%5D.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Block 24 Alice Richmond.<br />
<br />
The oak leaf and reel pattern is one of the very first patterns I appliqued and it is still a favourite of mine.<br />
<br />
<br />
After looking at some photos I took of my lone star progress I decided I wasn't happy with the colour layout. Over the last couple of weeks I have asked for opinions and played with fabric arrangements until I was happy.<br />
This is what my lone star looks like now....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJh67WH64wH_uAAXizPCARvDD44TGaFwzKvtQq9hulI4lnHalG91STi6d1w0NMldGbC1-rha2UGTQ5tjMIKzjQUwDb_3ixJFrCvt_jdjXf3lhtdkfI3jlaz8I1ycgbSZpTLohwk_I1DNBk/s1600/SAM_5302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJh67WH64wH_uAAXizPCARvDD44TGaFwzKvtQq9hulI4lnHalG91STi6d1w0NMldGbC1-rha2UGTQ5tjMIKzjQUwDb_3ixJFrCvt_jdjXf3lhtdkfI3jlaz8I1ycgbSZpTLohwk_I1DNBk/s1600/SAM_5302.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have taken out both dark green fabrics and replaced the pink points with red.<br />
<br />
This month's Noah and Matilda blocks are coming along. No stitching yet, but I have made all the templates and chosen the fabrics.<br />
<br />
I am attempting to find more sewing time by spending less time on the computer. However, I am missing the interaction with other bloggers. Does anyone else use Instagram? (I am mjnorindr if you would like to look for me) I have found several bloggers on Instagram and I found it much quicker to post and comment than on blogs.<br />
<br />
Spring is here in Melbourne. The weather is warmer and the days are getting longer.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone!Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6599655173189367478.post-60390894363824156402014-08-30T16:12:00.001+10:002014-08-30T16:12:17.791+10:00Quilt top finished, Noah and Matilda and more.....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t128/mimi_mjn/3dadd446-da8d-41ff-99fc-1e08fa07c092.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t128/mimi_mjn/3dadd446-da8d-41ff-99fc-1e08fa07c092.jpg" height="320" width="249" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I recently finished this quilt top for my Grandson. It will be for his cot, but big enough so that it can be tucked in at the sides and end. I have chosen a backing fabric and will be basting this weekend.<br />
<br />
I am up to date with my<a href="http://collectorwithaneedle.blogspot.com.au/p/noah-and-matilda-album-quilt.html"> Noah and Matilda blocks</a>!!!! Yay!<br />
<br />
This is the grape block from last month with some embroidery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yDqahTmha4w/VAFlJHL0e4I/AAAAAAAAEcc/aP4UWDiHih0/s1600/SAM_5240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yDqahTmha4w/VAFlJHL0e4I/AAAAAAAAEcc/aP4UWDiHih0/s1600/SAM_5240.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And this month's 4 blocks completed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKWQK-2QwRMk2tdO-g8h5C_-XxJkR-7RSONKArnotFIjo5kHrmqZF0o7gvdDMeIteD6ziwHwunuGKpt4cVIgh4cy3Qm4SQrunn88QwhYSo15nLYnV2bpOETayGR8xgkOwb7RzC8Kpk5Rw9/s1600/SAM_5245.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKWQK-2QwRMk2tdO-g8h5C_-XxJkR-7RSONKArnotFIjo5kHrmqZF0o7gvdDMeIteD6ziwHwunuGKpt4cVIgh4cy3Qm4SQrunn88QwhYSo15nLYnV2bpOETayGR8xgkOwb7RzC8Kpk5Rw9/s1600/SAM_5245.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made a couple of modifications to the top right block. Instead of appliqueing tiny yellow circles I embroidered some french knots. The stems for 4 of the hearts are chain stitch rather than a narrow fabric stem.<br />
<br />
Some wonderful fabrics have come in the post. You may remember I won a giveaway on <a href="http://lilysquilts.blogspot.com.au/">Lynne's blog </a>earlier this year. The first bundle of Cotton + Steel fat quarters arrived from <a href="http://www.pinkcastlefabrics.com/pages/cotton-steel-club">Pink Castle fabrics' Cotton + Steel Club.</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nqk6t9pyT90/VAFmPi_-b7I/AAAAAAAAEcs/IGMEv_buc5o/s1600/SAM_5250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nqk6t9pyT90/VAFmPi_-b7I/AAAAAAAAEcs/IGMEv_buc5o/s1600/SAM_5250.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Earlier I prepurchased a fat quarter bundle of all the Cotton + Steel basics. The wait was worth it!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-30y_a94Q8Lo/VAFmigWCTYI/AAAAAAAAEc0/ZJY2ONGI0ss/s1600/SAM_5251.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-30y_a94Q8Lo/VAFmigWCTYI/AAAAAAAAEc0/ZJY2ONGI0ss/s1600/SAM_5251.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have lots of ideas to use these!!! Anyone know where I can find a few extra sewing hours??? Lol<br />
<br />
On the hand piecing front I have completed the second section of my lone star quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rj8UfW9G7bE/VAFnxivCsdI/AAAAAAAAEdA/-P0EXsgnOiE/s1600/SAM_5254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rj8UfW9G7bE/VAFnxivCsdI/AAAAAAAAEdA/-P0EXsgnOiE/s1600/SAM_5254.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is going to be a big quilt!!!!<br />
<br />
Spring is in the air here in Melbourne. Its another delightful, sunny day. Hope it is a great day where ever in the world you are. :)Miriamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03831644517557759507noreply@blogger.com14
