Yesterday I finally finished the quilt we started in that class!!
This bird block features the fabric I used to base my colour choices on. I looove this fabric!
I love the fan fabric too.
I quilted with 2 lines of quilting down each of the borders and a diamond in the centre of each block.
A photo taken as the sun was still low in the sky this morning shows the quilting a little better.
And on the back..
Down the centre of the back I joined strips of most of the fabrics used in the front of the quilt.
For the binding I used a variegated stripe cut on the bias.
For the quilting I used a thread I haven't tried before. The DMC machine embroidery cotton is quite fine (size 50) and runs smoothly through the machine while producing no lint. While it is not a strong thread, I am very happy with the results.
Bordered Diamonds quilted, bound and labelled!
The quilting looks great as does the quilt. Love the binding.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt! It is so cheerful with the fabric you used. Your machine quilting is perfect for the diamonds.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous finish! This is beautiful! Coming from me, you have to know I mean it. These are great colors. Oh how I wish you were next door so you could help me make my Kaffe blocks look this good. What a lovely quilt!

ReplyDeletewell done on a Finish..

I'm in love with the color! Blue, purple and green are my favorites and you've got just enough pink and orange to warm it up. Nice to have a finish. Great job!
ReplyDeleteStunning! and the quilt design is perfect for the quilt. Well done!
ReplyDeleteBravo! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love that fan fabric too and have it in a bunch of colorways. You inspire me to make a quilt one day...but all the machine quilting works and construction scares me.
As for the DMC thread, I'm a big fan because it's thinner than normal sewing thread but I do wish it was stronger. It breaks on me when hand sewing too...
Bravo! It's beautiful!

Gorgeous quilt Miriam! Good job on your finish.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt with lovely quilting. So nice to see it finished! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Miriam: I absolutely LOVE your quilt!! I got to take the same class here last month and totally loved it. However, I am having a problem with the triangles that were cut in half to make the edges and the corners. I cut them in half like the instructions said and cut the corner in four. Problem is, I'm going to lose all my points on the quilt and the corners definitely won't fit. I read the instructions over and over as I was suspicious that the math didn't work out...if you cut a diamond in half, you need to make it bigger??? What did you do? Yours looks like you have all your points intact!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
