Appliqued Morrell Quilt Blocks

These 2 blocks are my latest finishes for the Morrell Quilt. The first block is the first time I have done applique with more than 2 layers. I am certainly learning lots with this quilt. :) A couple of pieced blocks and some more broderie perse blocks coming next. I have a block with a paper pieced border coming up. Wish me luck, I haven't done paper piecing before.

In the last week I have been inspired to try 3 new ideas by other bloggers. If I have success I will post pictures in the next couple of weeks.

The flowers below are all from my garden. The ranunculus have just started flowering and I love the variety of vibrant colours. The freesias are the very first of many. I love the perfume of freesias.

  3. Your blocks are just beautiful Miriam!! Did you apply the layers off the background or did you sew one on top of the other?

  8. Just Love your Applique blocks and your choice of colours. PAper-piecing is easy once you get the hang of it. Many years ago as a lover of Liberty too I paper-pieced miniature blocks 1 inch to form the yokes in the backs of my shirts. Lots of fun and I dicovered that every liberty fabric complimented each other no matter how different when it was cut small as they use the same colours just different prints.
    Keep having Fun
